Jonju8Hello everyone, I am about to renovate my kitchen and want to refix the countertops from the Ikea Metod kitchen series. It is very important to me that the fastening is both secure and stable, as well as invisible, so the appearance is not affected. Are there any proven methods or special tools you would recommend to achieve this goal? I am especially interested in how to properly secure the countertops without leaving screws or visible brackets on the top surface or along the edges. I have heard that there are special clips or adhesive systems, but I am unsure which ones really work well and whether they are a sensible solution in terms of durability and maintenance. Who has experience with this and can offer advice on how to fasten Ikea Metod countertops “invisibly” and securely, particularly as part of a renovation?
Hello Jonju8! This is a really exciting topic! 😊 Personally, for my Metod kitchen renovation, I used the original Ikea metal clips. They are small, easy to install, and hidden underneath the countertop. You screw the clips into the base cabinets, then hook the countertop onto them so nothing is visible from the front. It’s important that the underside of the countertops is clean and the clips are properly positioned.
If you want a really smooth finish, you can also use construction adhesive in addition. But be careful, this makes future disassembly more difficult! For me, the combination of clips and adhesive worked great—the countertop is firmly fixed and looks excellent. Keep your spirits up, you can do this! If you want to know exactly how I secured the clips, just let me know!

Hello everyone, I would like to provide a brief guide on this topic, covering both practical tips and common pitfalls.
1. Preparation: First, check that your Ikea Metod base cabinets are stable and level before installing the countertop. Unevenness can negatively affect the durability of the attachment.
2. Attaching the countertop: Ikea supplies dedicated mounting clips for Metod, which you install underneath the cabinets. These are secured with short screws and engage with the designated cutouts in the countertop. This method is completely sufficient for a secure fixation.
3. Invisibility: The clips are located under the countertop, so no screws or joints are visible from above.
4. Additional fixation: If the countertop is particularly long or expected to bear heavy loads, I recommend using a special adhesive that is waterproof and suitable for kitchen areas. This enhances stability but makes disassembly more difficult.
5. Error sources: Make sure the screws for the clips are not too long to avoid damaging the underside of the countertop. Also, during installation, ensure the clips fit precisely to prevent any rocking movement.
In summary, the original Ikea Metod fastening solutions are adequate for secure and invisible installation. Additional adhesive is optional depending on your needs. Those planning to disassemble later should avoid using adhesive.

Hello Jonju8,
First, regarding the question about securely and invisibly fixing the Ikea Metod countertops during renovations: The fastening clips offered by Ikea (Metod clips) are specifically designed to securely attach the countertops to the base cabinets without visible screws or brackets on the top or side surfaces.
Important notes for installation:
- The base cabinets must be properly aligned and level to correctly mount the fastening clips.
- The clips are secured with screws up to 10 mm (0.4 inches) long, which are specifically intended for the Metod kitchen system.
- The countertop must be locked into place at the designated points (cut-outs or mounting locations provided in the countertop).
- For additional stability, a separate, food-safe, and moisture-resistant mounting adhesive can be applied afterward, but this is optional.
Please note that using adhesive makes later disassembly more difficult and is therefore only recommended if no future renovations are planned.
Alternatively, special support structures or additional support rails under the countertop are also possible, especially for longer countertops and heavier loads.
Conclusion: The original Ikea fasteners, combined with careful alignment of the base cabinets, ensure a secure and invisible integration of the countertop. For long-term security and increased load capacity, supplementary measures can be beneficial.
