sauerpeter15 Nov 2017 21:23Hello everyone,
I am currently ordering a sectional door. The dimensions are 4 m wide and 2.125 m high (13 ft 1.5 in wide and 6 ft 11.5 in high). Am I correct in ordering exactly these dimensions?
The door will not be installed inside the opening but rather mounted on the front wall from the inside. Wouldn’t the door be too small then? Should I choose one size larger? On both the left and right sides of the door opening, I still have 50 cm (20 inches), so that should fit.
Because my lintel above the door is only 24 cm (9.5 inches) and the ceiling slopes slightly toward the back, I would select the L-bracket.
Do you think this will all work, or am I missing something? I just want to avoid the door being too small later on, with gaps or slots appearing anywhere.

Installation behind the reveal is actually more common. The idea of simply choosing a size one grid step too high and too wide—thinking that the wall or lintel will cover it and at least there won’t be a gap—is incorrect. That is not the purpose of the dimensions ;-)
Stock or standard sizes are based on construction reference measurements and take tolerances into account. Reputable manufacturers typically provide clear, illustrated guidance on their websites about how to correctly determine the order dimensions (and the related tolerances, so you don’t mistakenly think you need a custom size because of a 1cm (0.4 inch) deviation).
A door for an opening with a rough construction reference dimension of 400 x 212.5cm (13 ft 1.5 in x 6 ft 11.7 in) will not be a different size whether it is installed inside or behind the reveal. However, it will have a different frame variant. Sometimes this is just indicated by two letters after the size designation, e.g., "HL" (behind reveal) or "MA" (with stop).
Even more reliable suppliers have professional toll-free hotlines where you can get expert help ;-)

kkk27272916 Nov 2017 06:57I have had very good experiences with KLS Torsysteme. I ordered my sectional door with a pedestrian door from the brand Novoferm, approximately 5 meters (16 feet) wide and about 2.4 meters (7 feet 10 inches) high. For the measurements, I sent pictures from the inside and outside with the exact dimensions marked. That was no problem at all. During installation, a few minor questions came up, which I was able to easily clarify with the knowledgeable staff. I can recommend them 100 percent. It was also the most affordable provider. The only downside was that payment had to be made in advance.
