ᐅ Seating at the kitchen island: yes or no?

Hello,

we are currently planning our kitchen, and most things are more or less decided. However, we are still discussing one topic in more detail, which is the seating arrangement directly at the kitchen island.

Our layout: a kitchen run along the wall, a kitchen island, and then the dining table (all in one room of about 40 m2 (430 sq ft)). I’m interested to know if anyone else has this layout and if you included seating (bar stools/counter seating) at the kitchen island, and what your experiences have been. Would you do it the same way again, or would you skip it next time due to low usage? We suspect it might not be necessary since the dining table is right there anyway, and somehow a straight kitchen island just looks better...

Best regards

Yes, they are relatively easy to clean. So my wife is satisfied with the tiles.
By the way, the price was 29.20 euros per square meter (per 10.8 square feet) and the size was 60x60 cm (24x24 inches).

The tiles do look really stylish...

But another question, we have a similar island, but without a counter/bar. Simply because we also fitted cabinets on the side where a counter would be. I imagine it would be a bit awkward if I have to reach for something in a cabinet underneath with a counter on top.

Thanks!

That actually works quite well. We have intentionally stored items there that we don’t need to access when someone is sitting there. For example, cake stands, serving trays, thermal carafes, and so on are stored there. We are happy with the storage space as well as the width of the island.

We also have a counter at the island. We had a raised bench made by the carpenter because we couldn’t get comfortable with bar stools. It is used daily, especially for breakfast in the morning.
