Hello,

we are currently planning our kitchen, and most things are more or less decided. However, we are still discussing one topic in more detail, which is the seating arrangement directly at the kitchen island.

Our layout: a kitchen run along the wall, a kitchen island, and then the dining table (all in one room of about 40 m2 (430 sq ft)). I’m interested to know if anyone else has this layout and if you included seating (bar stools/counter seating) at the kitchen island, and what your experiences have been. Would you do it the same way again, or would you skip it next time due to low usage? We suspect it might not be necessary since the dining table is right there anyway, and somehow a straight kitchen island just looks better...

Best regards

Without a floor plan view, it is always difficult to say. Kitchen seating areas are quite popular. I find them unnecessary if the dining table is only about 100cm (40 inches) away, or if the seating basically blocks cabinets and pathways, unless the chairs can be pushed in completely underneath.

I find kitchen seating areas in an open kitchen unnecessary. I don’t see any added value in them.

If I already have a nice dining table, I want to sit there.

But of course, it’s a matter of personal taste...

We have a peninsula:

We use the seating area daily for the children.
I believe this is very individual.

Hello,
we almost exclusively use our two bar seating spots. We actually only sit at the dining table, which is just 2m (6.5 feet) away, when we have guests.
However, I also think this will change when there are children around.

In our previous apartment, we had seating at the island, and we actually only used it until we had our first child, after which we stopped using it.
