Hello hardworking craftsmen,

I want to start with the step in the outdoor area at my place. I plan to fill the area with recycled material and later lay stones in gravel.

Now to my question: What is the best way to seal the door area beforehand? Is EPDM sealing tape enough, or should I use liquid waterproofing?

A photo of the current condition is included.
I would appreciate advice on how to do this properly but also practically.
Thanks in advance and good luck with your projects.

The last image shown represents the condition at which the waterproofing should have been installed. No matter how you proceed now, you will sooner or later face moisture problems. If moisture penetrates the exposed aggregate plaster, which is only a matter of time, it will accumulate behind your waterproofing. According to standards, none of the common waterproofing products (Remmers, PCI, etc.) can be properly applied at this stage. The method described by Harakiri is basically correct but unfortunately ineffective in your case.

Who advised you on this?

If you still want to proceed this way, please don’t forget to sand the area under the door and clean it with alcohol before applying the waterproofing. However, as I said, I would rather remove part of the exposed aggregate plaster first. You can reapply it later without it being noticeable.

I recommend executing this correctly once, so you won’t have any issues afterward. Trying to “patch it up” now will cause problems sooner or later.
