Hello everyone,

We have built a retaining wall from concrete formwork blocks to hold back the road (on the left side of the wall in the picture). On the right side of the wall is the access to our house, where paving will be installed. The wall will be clad with wood in the visible area, mounted on a counter-batten system.
Now the question is whether I should fully waterproof the wall on the road side with a bituminous coating. A drainage membrane with studs will, of course, be installed. We get quite a lot of water on that side because during rainfall a small stream forms and then flows along the wall. Does it matter if the hollow blocks get wet and then dry out again from the front?

I would say a dimpled membrane is enough, but if you want to replace the wood with render later on, you'll have more work to do.
