what are your experiences: we want to lay tiles on a well-done screed floor. Is a primer coat needed beforehand? The screed seems to absorb moisture quite quickly, which is why I was told that a primer is necessary...

The technical data sheets of tile adhesives typically provide quite detailed information on substrate preparation. I would recommend checking those and following their guidelines.

Our tiler applied a primer coat.

Of course, that should be done; you don't need to save a few cents per square meter (square yard).
