Hello fellow home builders,

We are currently planning our single-family house and are waiting for the general contractor’s quote.
Right now, I’m focusing on the satellite dish and would like to get your recommendations or advice.
Google shows different satellite dishes at times, so it’s a bit confusing.
So far, I have mainly noticed the TecniSat SATMAN 850 Plus and the DUR line 4-person dishes.
Which dish would you recommend?
What other hardware is needed besides the dish?

Thanks in advance,
Antonio

We have a simple meter cabinet. Next to it is a sub-distribution box for the heat pump. Above that hangs the fiber optic modem. The Fritzbox sits on top of the meter cabinet. Next to it is a switch (a basic TP-LINK). Above that, the electrician installed the Homeway structured cabling.
I’m not sure if I want to or can fit all of this into a network cabinet. But if the multiswitch and later my microserver are added, I don’t know if it will still look “neat.”

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Everything I’ve seen so far are quite “deep” cabinets, but I’d prefer something flatter (similar to the meter cabinet), also because I want to mount it on the wall.

That’s because routing the cables isn’t exactly easy, and they tend to be quite stiff... plus you need to maintain bending radii.

For the satellite cabling, you could simply run it surface-mounted on the wall without any cabinets. You don’t have that many cables anyway.

As for LAN, you need to check... how many cables are we talking about exactly?

Take a detailed close-up photo of the patch panel where the network cables are terminated. If things go wrong, a minor "operation" might be necessary to get the cables into the network cabinet in the first place.

I have 6 LAN cables + 6 coaxial cables. 2 empty conduits for LAN + 1 LAN cable for the porch/video intercom system (future).

If I understood you correctly, you are looking for something like a Hager multimedia distribution box. I can’t say for sure if everything will fit inside as you want.

However, I would avoid using a box and instead mount everything neatly on the wall without a cabinet. If the patch panel is installed with the ports facing upward, as shown in the pictures, it should be rotated. Either with the ports facing sideways or preferably downward. The reason is that with ports facing upward, dirt and debris can accumulate inside. Where is the grounding for the patch panel? Am I just not seeing it, or is there none?

Personally, I would skip the box and just neatly mount everything on the wall without a cabinet. The grounding is indeed not connected! It can simply be connected to the house ground, right?

I would call the electrician who connected everything and ask him to properly complete his work.
