Hello,
I need your help regarding the network cabinet.
I want a 19-inch wall-mounted network cabinet.
We will have a cable connection provided by Vodafone.
Which depth would you recommend, 40 or 45 cm (16 or 18 inches)? I won’t need a 60 cm (24 inches) depth.
What height would you recommend? 6, 7, 9, or 12 rack units (U)?
Our CAT7 cables all come into the basement with keystone jacks.
What currently needs to go into the network cabinet:
1x 24-port patch panel with keystone openings
1x 16-port switch
1x Fritzbox 6660 or 6690
1x power strip
What else might be added to the network cabinet later?
We will also have satellite TV; 4 satellite cables come from the roof to the basement, and then 5 satellite cables go from the basement to the rooms.
Can we also neatly integrate the satellite distribution into the network cabinet, or should that be handled separately?

The Fritzbox 6690 requires quite a bit of space due to its upright design. There’s no reason not to use it lying flat.
One more note: if you use the Fritzbox as a Wi-Fi access point, installing it inside a server rack will weaken the signal!
For the 6690, I’ve also found 19-inch rackmount kits – just search for "FRITZ!Box 6590 / 6591 / 6690 Cable Rackmount Kit 19 inch."
Pricey, but it keeps things tidy.

I don’t think it’s worth it.
Yes, I know the Wi-Fi will be shielded, but it’s not that important in the basement.
Upstairs, the repeaters will be connected via LAN bridge.
I still don’t know which rack unit (RU) size to choose for the cabinet.
What would you recommend, 9 or 12?
You mentioned that 7 RUs might be tight, especially in the future.

Daniel_9317 Apr 2023 09:16According to your listed equipment:
1x 24-port patch panel with keystone slots
1x 16-port switch
1x Fritzbox 6660 or 6690
1x power strip
Each takes up 1 rack unit (1U), so a total of 4U. You will need to decide how much you want to expand in the future and choose the size accordingly. 🙂
