We applied painting fleece over our gypsum plaster, but somewhat unprofessionally, so in some areas small dots or bubbles—probably from the adhesive—are visible. We didn’t repair these spots but simply painted over them. Now, these areas are visible when light hits them.

Question: Is it enough to sand them down with a pole sander or sandpaper, or does the painting fleece need to be completely removed? How can this be done properly without a lot of effort?

Additionally, we want to repaint a bright red wall white. Should we lightly sand it first, or can we just apply a high-quality white paint over it?

Corner view: red wall meets white, textured ceiling with geometric lines.

White wall with slight texture, no object visible.

High-quality white coating. Otherwise, just the bubbles. So, this is luxury.

Sanding won’t help because it will damage the fleece again. Actually, as mentioned before, you should paint it and then leave it as is.

If there is no foreign object underneath the bubbles (you can feel it), try injecting some wallpaper paste into them with a syringe and then press firmly.

If there is a foreign object, carefully cut into the wallpaper to remove the object, and then reattach the wallpaper.

Whether to do this probably also depends on how many spots there are.
