ᐅ Rooms cold on the floor – is insulating the basement ceiling a good idea?

Our living room (ground floor) feels extremely cold underfoot. Even after heating for hours (standard radiator), your feet still feel cold—the floor temperature measured with an infrared thermometer is between 17 and 18°C (63 and 64°F).
The basement room below has a temperature of about 13°C (55°F), and the basement ceiling is bare concrete.
My question is: Would insulating the basement ceiling help? If so, what materials would you recommend?

How should the gaps created like this be filled?
Mineral wool or foam work well.

Foam is pretty cool, but you have to be careful when working with EPS. They don’t get along well.

OK
I used 10cm (4 inches) aluminum-coated PUR panels.
What can I do to make them white? Is wallpapering something commonly done for this?

You can paint it (if the paint adheres well) or actually wallpaper it. Alternatively, you can do a little extra work—attach 9.5mm (3/8 inch) drywall, apply joint compound, and then paint it (that's what I am currently doing in an extension).

Then I would foam the gaps. That will fit together well. For basements, I find it excessive, but if you really want to, you can probably paint over it with acrylic paint. It generally sticks everywhere.

I would like to avoid another adhesive step with drywall, especially since it’s just the basement 🙂 I’ll look into acrylic paint options, and if in doubt, I’ll wallpaper – convenient if you enjoy doing that anyway 😉
