ᐅ Rooms cold on the floor – is insulating the basement ceiling a good idea?

Our living room (ground floor) feels extremely cold underfoot. Even after heating for hours (standard radiator), your feet still feel cold—the floor temperature measured with an infrared thermometer is between 17 and 18°C (63 and 64°F).
The basement room below has a temperature of about 13°C (55°F), and the basement ceiling is bare concrete.
My question is: Would insulating the basement ceiling help? If so, what materials would you recommend?

Yes. Broken edges, detached fleece (or corresponding aluminum).
None of this is a big deal, especially when working with two layers.
If using only one layer, you should make sure to use the imperfect edges only for the trim pieces, where you would cut off or fill the lap joint anyway.

The 20mm (0.8 inch) boards were not always fully foamed. The 100mm (4 inch) and 120mm (4.7 inch) boards were just slightly off in size—sometimes about 1cm (0.4 inch) larger or smaller than specified. Otherwise, the quality was identical to A-grade. No damage, always fully foamed, no delamination of the aluminum facing.
For 120m² (1,292 sq ft) of 20mm and 140m² (1,507 sq ft) of 100 and 120mm thickness, it was definitely worth it. The savings were more than just "a few hundred €."

Nanopixel11 Apr 2022 14:32Hello everyone,
Thanks again to everyone who helped me here with their posts, much appreciated!
The insulation is installed and everything went really well. Now I have just two questions:
- With the uneven walls in the basement, the wall edges aren’t always perfectly straight. How would you recommend filling the gaps that result from this?
- Using aluminum silver as the ceiling color isn’t very appealing (even though it’s just the basement). I assume you can’t simply paint over it with white. Any alternatives? Wallpapering?
Best regards,
N
