Hello dear home builders,

I have a new balcony, 18.5 m² (200 sq ft), and I hired a roofer acquaintance without a quote (I know, not very smart) to install roofing felt (2 layers), a gutter, and 2 finishing strips (left and right). Now I received the invoice: €2,100, about half of what the entire balcony construction cost. The invoice lists €1,100 for labor; he was here for just under 13 hours. After researching online, the materials should be somewhere between €500 and €600 (I always took the highest prices). I had expected around €1,400. Is there any way to have this invoice reviewed? Is there an association for this?

Many thanks in advance and best regards.

Placing an order without a quote and then complaining about the price? Sorry, you’ll just have to bite the bullet and learn the hard way.

Talk to him, maybe he will be willing to compromise. Especially if he is someone from the local area or surroundings.

An hour of work by a master craftsman or a self-employed professional often costs between 60 and 70 €... then you have to add 19% VAT... so the 1100 € is not that unreasonable after all...
