ᐅ Roof windows not possible due to fire safety regulations – what are the alternatives?

Hello everyone,

I would like to install a roof window in my upper floor. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough space because it’s a semi-detached house, and here (in Bavaria) I need to maintain a 1.25m (4 ft) distance between the neighbor’s property and the roof window. If I move it in that far, the ceiling would already reach the attic floor.

So, I thought about mimicking this with an LED panel and a self-built window frame. It would be frosted or diffused, but my main goal is the lighting effect and atmosphere. Besides the very strong and large LED panel, it would also need a control system with a sensor that measures the current outdoor lighting conditions to replicate them.

This is probably very expensive or even not feasible—but I thought I’d share the idea here. Maybe someone has some suggestions. I just don’t want it to end up looking like a panel simply screwed to the ceiling.

Best regards,
Flo

P.S. One could, but only if they want to, consider what the question was and what the answers were.
Yes,

Actually, that was your question:

The question was about another idea. We put effort into that. If the answers were not what you expected, that’s unfortunate. That’s why I asked if we could perhaps agree on a good option that you like 🙂

Could you please specify the posts and users where the thing you wrote below, the thing you are complaining about here, was actually written? No one bombarded you, no one got upset, no one used the word nonsense or similar, no one wrote anything about unprofessionalism or the like.

"You’re not professional" or "Sure, you can do that, but it will never look real" is how you get bombarded

No, no, no. You’ve misunderstood that ;-) ;-) ;-) What I meant was that I would have preferred if the above statements had been made, but in response to my idea, instead of completely ignoring my idea and immediately offering alternative solutions. I’m sure everyone meant well, but there is a reason why I’m asking about artificial lighting, because I wanted to avoid the whole discussion about light strips, roof shapes, and so on in the first place.

Ah, okay.
My opinion: Artificial light can never replace natural daylight. That’s why a window is always preferred over an artificial light source. The same applies to LEDs. Although they allow for panel lights, it’s still just artificial light.
Usually, the goal is to make a room suitable for occupancy, so ventilation must also be taken into account…

That’s why I didn’t address the LED question or the idea of simulated dusk, etc. It’s just a gimmick. When the natural light outside isn’t enough anymore, you still have to switch on a light source.
