Hello,
we are considering installing two additional skylights in the attic, which is currently not insulated.
I found one from the market leader, a pivot window measuring 78 x 118 cm (31 x 46 inches), costing about €440 at the local large hardware store.
Plus the flashing kit, the total comes to around €510.
I’ve now called two contractors, and both mention roughly "€1200 net" or "around €1500" for supply and installation.
I would have expected installing skylights to take about 4 hours? Hourly rate €60? That would total roughly €750.
Where am I mistaken? Have I forgotten something?
Best regards,
Simon

Did I forget anything? - Profit/loss
- Ordering, coordinating, and inspecting the installation site also cost money
- "Non-productive" employees still need to be paid
- The workload situation in the construction industry
Also, the question is whether it can really be done within 4 hours. Does the roof need to be stripped and re-covered? Do rafters and beams need to be added? (I assume so.) All of this takes a lot of time.
Depending on the scope of work, the price is reasonable.
Installing only the window, without having to do anything else, should cost around €1000-1300.
Hardware store products → Products from the market leader. Therefore, I assume they get even better prices. Or do they all calculate based on the recommended retail prices?
I would have now included profit, overhead costs, and ordering in the hourly rate; is €60 per hour (about $64) too low as an assumption?
The roof does not need to be removed, only an opening created. Someone mentioned that would be around €120 (about $128). No rafters or beams will be added; the window fits between them.
€1000 (about $1065) would still be within the range of my rough estimate.
