Hello,
can someone tell me what this construction is called?

Wooden roof frame with visible rafters and beams in the attic

It’s not a prefabricated truss, right?

Why would you do that, especially since it is no longer cheaper than a traditional timber roof frame?

That was just an example; I’m not specifically attached to a trussed roof or anything. Somehow, I actually tend to prefer roof structures like the one shown in the picture I provided above. Based on what you’ve said, I assume that trussed roofs used to be more cost-effective but that this has more or less evened out now? And that a trussed roof costs about the same as a traditional purlin roof frame?

No, a truss roof is cheaper.

Can you give an approximate difference in cost? Just so there’s a rough idea. Of course, it probably depends on the region, but it’s only meant as a general reference. Maybe the difference is so large that it doesn’t fit the budget at all.
We don’t plan to convert the attic into living space, but for storage purposes, a traditional rafter roof structure would be much better than a truss roof with all those wooden beams.

@Bauexperte okay, my understanding is that a purlin roof is more expensive. However, as you already mentioned, it is basically the only viable option.

I never understood why homeowners like to install so much timber under the roof

This is one of those points I only understood after seeing it completed. (No one told me beforehand, and since I wasn’t familiar with the truss roof, I didn’t realize the roof structure should be questioned.)
