I am currently doing renovation work at the roof ridge and want to remove some light cross beams (approx. 9 x 3.5 cm (3.5 x 1.4 inches) thick). Does the house still need these beams, or were they only used during the construction process? If replacement is necessary, would a wind bracing strap measuring 40 x 1.5 mm (1.6 x 0.06 inches) be sufficient? I am thinking of simply installing a few crosses on both sides. What recommendations can you give me?

There are already wind bracing elements installed. Therefore, the boards should serve a different purpose. In my opinion, they can be removed. However, I am not a structural engineer. You should ask one.

Since you want to convert the space, some kind of panels will be installed there. These will also provide additional rigidity.

I installed these wind braces myself, but in my opinion, they are too weak at about 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide. I had planned to install ones that are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, but I’m still not sure if they would be strong enough. Another idea I have is to install boards at a 45-degree angle between the beams. This would mean simply cutting the same boards and then fixing them with two screws on each side.

The 1cm (0.4 inch) strips are not wind bracing strips. They only hold up your insulation. Remove the cross battens piece by piece and cover everything with OSB. It serves the same function as a structural sheathing panel.

I basically like the idea! Could drywall sheets over the wind bracing strips have the same effect as OSB panels?
