1. We are currently working on the roof conversion, using insulation between the rafters along with a vapor barrier. The drywall installer did not correctly install the wall connection of the membrane. Although he taped the overlaps of the membrane, there are small gaps at the overlaps near the wall because he applied only a single sealing bead on the wall and did not seal each overlap individually. The drywall panels are already in place. His response to my concern was that a vapor barrier still allows moisture to escape and that such small gaps wouldn’t cause any issues.
2. Why is it possible to fill boxed-in areas with insulation wool without the insulation getting damp, but apparently not in the roof?
3. We have insulated the roof up to the gable peak and additionally insulated the intermediate ceiling. Is a vapor barrier in the living area sufficient, or should the vapor barrier also be installed in the unused gable area?
I would appreciate it if you could answer these questions.
