Hello everyone,
In our 1962 house, the old manual wooden shutters are going to be replaced with new electric aluminum shutters.
Our shutter specialist recommends Somfy LT 50 shutter motors. These are manually adjusted with buttons and are said to be very durable. However, they do not have obstacle detection or automatic shutoff in case of freezing. That concerns me a bit.
I would tend to go for the Oximo 50 WT but have no experience in this area. The Oximo includes all the electronics for shutoff and can even adjust itself if needed. I get the impression that the LT 50 is older technology—although maybe that’s why it’s reliable?
For the shutter slats, we were recommended wide Leo profiles, supposedly a subsidiary of Roma. Does anyone know this company? They cost €103 per square meter, which is not exactly cheap. In comparison, Warema profiles are €84 per square meter and seem more affordable.
The shafts are all supposed to be 60mm (2.4 inches).
Is it correct to use 60mm (2.4 inches) shafts everywhere? Does it make sense to install the wider 53mm (2.1 inches) or 55mm (2.2 inches) profiles throughout? I’m not sure if mixing sizes would be advisable.
Could someone help me with some advice on making a decision? The motors will be operated with standard switches.
Best regards,
Thomas

Hello Thomas,
From my experience, you should be glad about the 60 mm (2.4 inches) slat size. Because with the larger slat, you can install a bigger motor. With the smaller one (40 mm (1.6 inches)) – exactly: only a small motor fits. Less durable, less powerful...
It’s also an advantage if the wider slats are planned, as they are more torsion-resistant than the narrow ones (e.g., 37 mm (1.5 inches) slats). The narrow mini-slats only became common because in the small mini roller shutter boxes, there was no space to fit “proper” slats.
