ᐅ Roller shutter guides too short?

Hello,

our roller shutters do not completely block out the light.

I have now noticed that although the shutter closes down to the aluminum window sill, the guides do not extend onto the window sills, leaving a gap on the side through which a significant amount of light comes in.

In another house, I saw that the guides run down onto the window sills and are therefore completely light-tight.

Attached is a photo.
Is this installation correct, or are the guides too short?

These are aluminum roller shutters, in a prefab house.

What do the experts say?

Someone didn’t measure correctly.
The measurements were done correctly. However, the end pieces were not notched out. It also depends on the contract regarding which installation was agreed upon.
You won’t be able to fix this properly afterwards.

I don’t understand the notching. Where exactly does something need to be notched? Isn’t it enough for the guide/rail to simply be longer and rest on the surface?

To me, it just doesn’t look long enough.

I also believe that the guide rails are too short. Where exactly should something be "notched out"...?

Interestingly, they did it "wrong" or rather correctly in one place by accident, and now they want to adjust the rest to match.

In my opinion, it should be done like this everywhere. I also don’t see what else would need to be ordered or commissioned. The trim should go all the way down and that’s it; technically, there is no other option except to make it too short.

The construction company says it has to be this short to prevent water from accumulating there.

So, what is actually correct?

Ah, it looked like a sliding piece in the other picture:

The roller shutter then ends on the end piece (used with external wall insulation systems) and needs to be notched out so that the roller shutter stops at the windowsill.

So, I agree with you. The guide rail is too short. Possibly you can adjust the roller shutter slightly as a temporary solution.

The guide rails are usually slid on. This can only be fixed (by using a longer guide rail) if the window is completely removed.
