Hello everyone

I am looking for a suitable solution for installing side roller shutter guide rails on timber-aluminum windows. Normally, the guide rails are attached directly to the timber frame. However, with timber-aluminum windows this is not possible because of the aluminum cladding in front—the wood recesses by about 18 mm (0.7 inches), and the remaining space between the masonry reveal and the aluminum cladding is only around 22-27 mm (0.9-1.1 inches). Unfortunately, this is not enough for the standard base profiles.

Does anyone know of special roller shutter guide rails designed for such a narrow width? For example, profiles like the Gutmann Mira Classic do not work for my application, as they are not intended for an 80 mm (3.1 inches) installation opening with a room-side closed roller shutter box.

Does anyone have a suitable manufacturer, an alternative rail system, or a different mounting method that can be used for timber-aluminum windows with narrow reveals and an outer casing? I would appreciate any ideas or practical tips!

Hello,

take a look at the narrow guide rails from Roma or Warema, which are specifically designed for tight installation spaces in wood-aluminum windows. The models called "compact guide rails" often fit reveal widths from around 20 mm (0.8 inches). Installation is usually directly on the aluminum cladding using suitable spacers—make sure to ensure thermal separation. If that is still too tight, the only option left is almost a flush reveal installation with on-site modification or custom fabrication by a metalworker.
