Less than two years ago, I completely renovated my old apartment, but unfortunately I did not consider that new windows with roller shutters would eventually be installed on the south side. As a result, no switches for controlling the roller shutters were planned or installed in the rooms.
Now the windows will be replaced soon, this time with roller shutters included. Since the electrical connections are already in the right places and, as mentioned, there are no switches in the rooms (and I do not want to damage the walls retroactively), I thought about roller shutter motors that can be controlled by remote control. There are several options like this available on the market.
My question is: Is it possible, with roller shutter motors controlled by remote, to additionally install, for example, Shelly 2.5 relays (or something similar) so that the roller shutters can also be operated via Wi-Fi (app) alongside the remote control?
If yes, is a gateway always required (e.g., Zigbee)?

Why not use standard motors with Shellys? Motors with remote controls are often proprietary and usually don’t even separate the connections for up and down. That means you can’t use any wireless actuators like Shelly. For example, if you had Somfy motors, you would be tied to the Somfy app. Although it offers a bit more functionality, it’s a closed system with no option for external control. And if someone tells you you can create a whole smart home system with Somfy motors: yes, but only through the Somfy app, because it’s a one-way street.
Therefore: it’s better to use standard motors and connect Shellys. This way, you could even switch to something other than Shellys later if your preferences change. Wireless actuators for shading devices are available in large numbers, but not if you’ve already limited yourself with a closed motor system.

Thanks @Araknis for the detailed and helpful response!
The idea of using wireless remote controls came from me; I thought in case the internet goes down and the Shellys stop working.
Even though we live in very crazy times, I’m willing to take that risk. 🙂
Next question: can someone please recommend good "standard" motors that work with Shelly 2.5?
And if anyone is familiar with Homematic gateways... I read that Shellys can be well integrated and managed with CCU3 via some add-on. Has anyone had experience with this? I currently have a Homematic IP box controlling my heating and would consider switching to CCU3!
