Hi,

we want to renovate the ceilings in our newly purchased house. At the moment, there are wooden panels attached to the ceiling, which we plan to remove and replace with drywall sheets. Should I also insulate the ceiling at the same time? This is the upper floor, with the attic located above.

If insulating, what type of insulation should I use? Do I need to install a vapor barrier, or is just the insulation material enough since the attic is above – so there is no exterior wall?

Thanks

So, I once insulated the attic in a multi-family house.
Basically similar to your situation.
We used glass wool, without a vapor barrier because, as far as I know, these are only used on exterior walls.
It certainly makes sense in your case since the attic is unheated and this way the heat doesn’t pass through so quickly.
I would do it.
