Is it possible to add a wooden cladding to an existing rendered ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) facade? I imagine it might be challenging to attach it properly. What costs should one expect for 20 square meters (215 square feet)?

In principle, I don’t see any reason why not. A long drill bit, suitable anchors, and screws. Every screw naturally creates a thermal bridge, but that would also be the case in monolithic construction.

Yes, but with 36 cm (14 inches) of monolithic construction, the anchor penetrates 5 cm (2 inches) into the 36 cm (14 inches) thick wall, whereas with 20 cm (8 inches) of external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) on 16 cm (6 inches) of sand-lime brick, the anchor goes 25 cm (10 inches) deep into the masonry. In this respect, the issue of thermal bridging is greater with ETICS, isn’t it?

Our awning was fastened with special Thermax anchors, each costing 50 €. That would be quite expensive given the large number of anchors needed for the support battens in a timber cladding system.

I also can’t imagine that an attached wood cladding would look good. It’s just an attached “board cladding.” For our wooden facade, it was important to me that it is flush-mounted.

Here are two pictures of the project. We had considered cladding the light gray area beneath the entrance canopy with wood. In the end, we decided not to do this during the house construction, but we are now thinking about adding it later.

The problem here is probably the reveals, which you don’t want to leave plastered, and then it gets tight...
