ᐅ Installing a Flush-Mounted Mailbox Retrofitting into External Wall Insulation (EWI)

Chloe83Good evening,
Our house exterior is finished, and we would like to have a flush-mounted mailbox with an integrated video intercom installed.
The issue (or maybe not an issue) is that this installation has to be done retrospectively. This means cutting an opening into the facade, specifically the external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS / external wall insulation) to a depth of 10cm (4 inches). That would leave 6cm (2.4 inches) of insulation and 20cm (8 inches) of sand-lime brick behind it, concerning thermal bridging.
We understand this is usually done before plastering, but our construction manager was not very accessible in some matters.
Is this still feasible at this stage, or would you advise against it?
Thanks!

Hello Chloe,
I have exactly the same issue as you. How did you manage to solve it?
Best regardsWe are installing a flush-mounted mailbox with a DoorBird video intercom in May. An electrician will handle the installation (he has installed our model several times before). He said it won’t be a problem. There will still be some insulation left.X

No problem. We have had it for 10 years with no issues at all. Installed cleanly and sealed with sealing tape.
