Hello,

we are looking for an electric sectional garage door to retrofit.

Our garage currently has a manual up-and-over door, which we want to replace with an electric sectional door.

There is power available in the garage.

Which garage door opener would you recommend?

Hörmann is probably a good choice, but are there any other good alternatives?

The garage door should work with two remote controls and have a wall switch inside the house next to the front door. (When we leave through the front door, we want to press the switch and have the garage door open so that it is already open by the time we arrive.)

If possible, the garage door should also be made "smart home" capable, either immediately or with an additional module, for example compatible with Matter.

Thank you very much for your help.

Yes, I have read that. The question is why. Actually, his concern is about the electric operation. And he can accomplish that just as well with the swing gate.

Because a sectional door requires less space when opening, for example. Of course, an electric drive can also be used with a swing door. But I didn’t want a swing door anymore.

Thank you for your messages.

There is nothing against choosing a Hörmann door at first.

Yes, I would prefer a sectional door rather than a swing door.

Which Hörmann drive would you recommend?

What is it used for? Hörmann Universal Adapter Board UAP 1 HCP

The drive always comes with 2 remote controls.

Is there a way to install a button next to the front door (inside) so that I can open the garage door when I leave the house and have it already open when I arrive, so I don’t have to wait?

You need the Hörmann Universal Adapter Board UAP 1 HCP to properly integrate your garage door into a KNX (smart home) system. For this, you require a defined open/up/close/down/stop function, and ideally also feedback from the end switches indicating open or closed. I’m not sure if this can be operated without a safety device like a light curtain or similar.

You can install as many push buttons as you want, but each one requires its own cable. They must also be within line of sight of the door for safety reasons.

However, Hörmann also offers wireless push buttons that work like remote controls (with additional options such as a numeric code, fingerprint, etc.).

Thank you for your reply.

We don’t have KNX. We will probably upgrade later to the new wireless standard, Matter.

I don’t want to control the garage door extensively.

I would just find it nice to be able to operate the garage door with the original remote, a button next to the front door, and via a smartphone.

This is done via the external switching contact, either by cable or wireless.
