ᐅ Replacing Stair Treads

Hello everyone,

As part of the renovation, we would like to replace the stair treads with new wooden ones.
I’m wondering if it’s possible to do this step by step from top to bottom by myself.

The carpenter would create templates and deliver the treads pre-cut to fit.

I would start at the top and support each tread underneath as I go down.
Has anyone done this before? Does it work the way I’m thinking?

Also, I’m wondering where I can get new spacers for between the treads.

Many people pay a huge premium for a granite staircase!

or would have done so here back then. Looking up the current price of such a staircase would probably give a new perspective on its value.

In my opinion, spending a lot of money to create a condition that is less valuable is not justified just because you personally like it better. A property is never just a home; it also represents creditworthiness.

So, with all due respect for different tastes, I believe this would be an investment in devaluation. However, whether that is foolish or original might simply be a matter of personal preference.

And, as I said, the trend is coming back that a luxury car parked outside goes hand in hand with a signature staircase inside the house.

I also prefer wood, but I would pass on this staircase.

I find that the staircase ultimately looks somewhat outdated. It would probably appear different if the current steel railing with the plastic handrail were replaced.

However, these are costs I would consider much lower priority.

In a few years, when this style becomes super trendy again, that will be seen as the most "authentic." Or as a combination of chrome and curved glass. But that costs as much as a whole staircase.

My first thought was also: oh dear, why throw it away? We just spent a small fortune on a granite staircase.

With a new stainless steel railing (we still have curved glass panels in it) and plain white walls, it looks completely different—I agree with the others on that.

The only thing that seems excessive here is the wallpaper pattern. If the wall color is just a shade darker than the steps, everything can look very elegant. The wrought iron could be painted a light color.

How did you decide, @roadrun87?
