Hello everyone, some time ago I bought a Kallax shelving unit from Ikea and used the stylish doors that go with it. Now, some of the doors are damaged and I am considering replacing them. My question is: Are there original replacement doors for Kallax from Ikea, or do you have to look for alternatives? If so, what experiences have you had with replacement products or custom-made solutions? I need doors that are as durable and precisely fitting as possible, and easy to install. Thanks in advance for your tips!

About Palenar:

The durability mainly depends on the surface treatment. Melamine is durable, relatively moisture resistant, and easy to clean, which is why Ikea chose it for Kallax doors.

Alternative: Painted MDF doors have a very smooth surface and are more resistant to scratches; however, they are more complex to manufacture and significantly increase the cost.

For private users, I recommend melamine because it is affordable and low-maintenance.

Regarding hinges: Many use clip-on hinges from Hettich or Blum as replacements – they are durable and comparable to Ikea quality, provided the drill holes fit or are adjusted accordingly.

I had a local carpenter make doors from MDF with a white coating, and I ordered the hinges separately from Ikea (leftover stock on eBay).

That sounds really good and matches exactly what I had in mind, thanks for the inspiration!

For a precise fit, it’s recommended to create an accurate dimension drawing including all mounting points.

I will measure the doors carefully again today and try to document the dimensions as exactly as possible.

Could you possibly share a reliable source for these “leftover Ikea hinges,” or any tips on how to identify the typical Ikea hinges?

Thanks again to everyone, you’ve been a great help!
