I am planning to replace the glass in my uPVC window frames. From what I have researched, the window consists of a single pane with Georgian bars (so, just one piece of glass, not, as might be assumed, eight separate panes). Now I am wondering if this can be done at all without having to install an entirely new window frame.
Perhaps there are some experts here who can give me some advice.
1. I would like to replace the old, decorated glass with a "standard" double-glazed insulated glass unit without bars. Is this possible, or should I expect that the glazing beads have notches?
2. How can I best remove the bars so that I can knock out the glazing beads and remove the glass?
Thank you very much for your help.

Of course, you can simply have it replaced without buying a whole new frame... but the best option is to go to a glazier who can get the new glass and install it for you. I have no idea how old your window is, but to remove the glass on ours, the frame had to be unscrewed... No smashing the glass!
