Hello everyone,

we are about to purchase and renovate a single-family house. The old wooden windows will be replaced with floor-to-ceiling wooden (aluminum-clad) windows.

Issue 1: All local companies we contacted offer windows from (in-house production or) various manufacturers, none of which I have found any references for here on the forum. Therefore, my question is whether there are any experiences available and how we can generally approach this topic and make a preliminary selection, or are the differences in these areas rather minor? The list includes:
  • Tryba
  • Unilux
  • Wertbau
Issue 2: The existing windows have an outer reveal and roller shutters that are to be retained. The window companies we have spoken to so far say this is possible but of course cannot guarantee it. However, I am concerned that either the reveal will be significantly damaged or the whole installation will be done in a makeshift way and in no case come close to the original condition in terms of quality, sealing, or appearance. Does anyone have any idea if this can even work together with a wooden-aluminum window variant and such a reveal?

Grateful for any advice...
🙂

I don’t have an opinion on any of the three, they are not familiar to me either (I was a window dealer until 2019, but of course you don’t know all suppliers, especially smaller ones).

Unfortunately, I share your concerns. I don’t even know the house manufacturer. Hopefully you do – that would be the first step to gather information.

It is a WeberHaus timber frame house. WeberHaus would also handle the work but currently has no availability for the foreseeable future, so we have to go through third parties. Their statement is that the windows can be removed from the inside without damaging the reveal. But how will the new windows be properly installed and sealed afterward?

Wow, from when exactly? That must have been "before my time," I don’t recall any metal-clad reveals.

But how are new windows then properly installed and sealed?

That’s exactly how I see it, with the same concerns. I would pass this question on to the architect.

The construction year of the WeberHaus is 1994 with original windows.

One we haven't had or needed so far... :-(

Hello, the drawing above was very helpful to me – thank you very much.
Are there also cross-sections from the top and bottom (windows and doors)?
Thank you in advance.
