Is it possible to replace a load-bearing wall located in the middle of a room (with walkways on both sides) in a finished timber frame house? To make the space more open... maybe use a steel beam or make it narrower? The house provider says no, but perhaps it’s possible to do something about it later on?

That can become expensive, so in any case, consult a structural engineer; almost anything is feasible.
Definitely obtain several cost estimates beforehand.

Okay, sure, yes without this and that it won’t work... I just wonder why they don’t build it like that right away after multiple requests, if it’s actually doable.

You want to remove a wall in a "pre-owned" prefabricated house (?) and the manufacturer still exists and says that the wall is not just decorative. You’re lucky to still be able to ask them, as the industry has gone through quite a bit of "clean-up." In my opinion, they would also be the most suitable contractor for this renovation. Steel beams in a prefabricated house, amusing idea :-)

It is cheaper with a timber frame house / prefab house, but this does not mean it is of lower quality construction.

There are some, but I haven’t researched steel beams or underground construction thoroughly yet... Yes, he says he won’t do it.
