Hello everyone,

Happy New Year to you all.

We recently purchased an existing property and would like to make some changes. The bathroom has spotlights installed, which I would like to replace with LED spotlights. The current spots are connected to two large transformers. These transformers hang unattractively from the ceiling, and I would like to get rid of them.

When looking at the transformers, I noticed the connected cables. To me, they look like speaker cables. I have never seen anything like this used for lighting installations before, but I’m not an expert.

I would like to know what I should consider for this project and if I can use 230V LED spotlights to operate them without a transformer. One spotlight is located directly above the shower; could this cause any issues?

What’s the deal with these strange “speaker cables”? Or are these normal cables for these spotlights? Can I keep using them if I replace the spotlights with LEDs?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thank you very much and best regards,
sKape

It's best to call an electrician for an assessment. LED spotlights usually require 230 V (230 V), and if the appropriate cables are not installed, they cannot be used.

Speaker cables are not suitable cables for this purpose.

In that case, you need to look for 12 V (12 V) or 24 V (24 V) systems and replace the transformer accordingly.
