I would like to ask for your help with the following issue.
A few days ago, the electrically operated rolling shutter on our living room window started making loud banging noises when rolling up. I turned it off and didn’t try to force it up.
My father has since removed the motor and tested it. It pulls very strongly and should therefore not be the problem. We now suspect that the top slats might be defective. I noticed that the top five slats do not have the light/air slots like the others. Additionally, these slats show slight whitish crease marks along their entire length. The window is divided into two sections (about 1 x 2 meters (3 x 6.5 feet) and 2 x 2 meters (6.5 x 6.5 feet)). The shutter curtain is also divided, but both parts are connected to one motor. If I detach the larger curtain while the smaller one is still connected, it operates smoothly.
If anyone has any advice on what could be causing this, I would be very grateful. Is it possible to simply replace the top slats with ones that have slots, or would that cause problems with the rolling mechanism? There is definitely about 4 cm (1.5 inches) of space all around inside the shutter box. I read somewhere that the top slats are made solid to ensure light-tightness at the top of the shutter. So, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Andreas
