Hello everyone,
I’m considering whether a repair kit for Kallax shelves is really worthwhile. The background is that I have several Kallax units in my apartment, which have developed some minor damage over the years—such as scratches on the corners, some damaged drill holes, or small cracks in the surface.
Now I’m wondering if it’s worth buying the repair kits from IKEA or third-party suppliers to improve the shelf’s appearance and function, or if the effort and cost outweigh the benefits.
Does anyone have experience with these repair kits? How well do they fix the damage? And do they significantly affect the shelf’s stability or appearance?
I look forward to your experiences and opinions!

In general, repair kits for Kallax shelving units are quite a practical solution to fix minor damages without having to replace the entire piece of furniture. They usually include hole covers, small screws, touch-up paint, and sometimes small bottles of glue.
However, you should keep in mind that these kits mainly provide cosmetic improvements. They do not effectively address major cracks or structural damage. For enhancing the appearance, they are very well suited, as the materials are usually color-matched.
The stability of the shelving unit is not negatively affected by using these repair kits.

Thank you for the feedback so far!
@Sinan-meo: It sounds like the set is mainly intended for minor damages such as drill holes and light scratches, not for larger repairs. I would also be interested in how easy it is to apply. Does it require a lot of sanding or drying time?
And @Jorgela, since you have used it – do you consider the price-performance ratio to be reasonable?

Hello lenle and everyone else,
I have used several Kallax modules as well as repair kits. The application is usually quite simple. Most of the time, the paint or glue dries within half a day, and minimal sanding is needed since the kits often include pre-shaped materials.
One tip: For larger dents, it helps to first roughen the surface with some fine sandpaper so that the paint or glue adheres better. Afterwards, you can make the repair and, once dry, sand lightly again to achieve a smooth finish.
So overall, this is also suitable for DIY beginners. However, for more significant structural damage, I would still recommend replacement parts or entire modules.

Regarding costs: Can anyone say approximately how much these repair kits cost and whether it’s worth buying one for older Kallax shelves that might not be brand new anymore?
