Hello everyone, I have a problem with the drawers of my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet. The drawers can be opened and closed, but there is a very unpleasant, constant squeaking noise that has gradually gotten worse over time. Additionally, some drawers no longer operate as smoothly, which I suspect is due to the runners. My question is: What proven methods are there to thoroughly repair the drawers of the Ikea Metod system and, above all, eliminate the annoying squeaking sounds? I am interested in both simple home remedies and professional solutions in case a more extensive repair becomes necessary. If anyone has had similar experiences or even step-by-step guides, I would be very grateful for any tips. Thank you!

The rails don’t appear bent at first glance, but I’m not completely sure.

Then check them with a straight edge. If the rails don’t lie flat, they are bent. You should only try to straighten slightly bent rails carefully with pliers to avoid breaking them.

Hello Ellipra,

I can only confirm the tip about silicone spray; it’s my favorite because it doesn’t damage the plastic parts and still provides good lubrication. One point I had to learn myself: after applying the spray, move the drawer gently several times so the lubricant spreads evenly. You can also check whether the tracks are still properly aligned — sometimes the mounting shifts due to stress.

If you feel confident, I also recommend lightly applying a small amount of household oil to the metal sliding surfaces, but be careful to avoid contact with the plastic, as it can become sticky.

And don’t worry, with a bit of care, you can usually get the drawers working properly again!

If there is a need for a detailed step-by-step guide, I can gladly provide a more thorough explanation.
I would really appreciate that, as it would help me proceed more efficiently next time. Even though I am confident in handling the work myself, I want to avoid mistakes or causing unnecessary damage to the system. Thanks also to everyone else for the tips; I will start the maintenance in the coming days.

Gladly! Here is my step-by-step guide to repair and reduce squeaking noises in Ikea Metod drawers:

1. Completely remove the drawer from the kitchen cabinet. Remove the drawer slides from both the drawer and the cabinet body.
2. Carefully inspect all parts (slides, plastic rollers, drawer) for damage and wear. Rollers should be round and intact.
3. Clean metal parts with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use strong cleaners.
4. Clean the plastic rollers with lukewarm water or a mild detergent, then dry thoroughly.
5. If any slides are slightly bent, gently reshape them by hand or with pliers.
6. Apply silicone spray sparingly to the slides, focusing especially on the contact points with the rollers.
7. Reassemble and reinstall the drawer.
8. Open and close the drawer several times to distribute the lubricant evenly.
9. If the squeaking persists, repeat the steps and consider replacing all rollers.

Important: Do not use oils or greases, as they attract dust over time and can cause more problems.

Following these steps should help make your Metod system quiet and smooth again.
