Hello,

what options are available for cosmetic treatment of a concrete slab?

The slab was partly formed with smooth formwork and partly with OSB boards, which left a textured surface, as shown in the photo.
I want to even out the two different surfaces.

Close-up of a rough grey plaster surface next to a stone wall.

No perimeter insulation, bitumen coating, or similar will be applied to the slab edge; the concrete appearance will be retained.

In some areas, the slab height is lower, and the visual difference there doesn’t bother me much. However, there are sections (due to the slope of the ground) where the formwork was significantly higher, and I definitely want to address those. The question is how?

There are also spots—unfortunately no photo at the moment—where the formwork was poorly done, causing large surface defects. Cosmetic treatment will likely not be enough there, and I will need some kind of repair concrete filler.

Best regards,
Jens

You can probably forget about it. Anything you apply on top won’t look like exposed concrete anymore.

Were these areas explicitly planned as exposed concrete? Or were you just hoping it would work out? Unfortunately, that didn’t go well.

That’s why exposed concrete is so challenging—because you can’t correct it afterwards.

The exposed concrete finish was neither planned nor commissioned.

I would also be satisfied with a uniform texture, meaning everything formed with OSB. What bothers me is the mix of smooth formwork and OSB texture.

Then at least you got what is standard practice.

A concrete grinder is the tool of choice. And then a lot of elbow grease. Will it look good? No idea. Even? Definitely, but only after a lot of work.

Won’t that be covered by the gravel strip afterward anyway? Otherwise, the concrete smoothing compound you’re looking for is also available for purchase. Whether it will look better in the end... no idea.
