Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum. Since I have several projects planned for the garden and around the house, I would appreciate an active exchange of ideas and lots of good advice.
My next project is: repaving the driveway. This driveway, with an area of about 70m² (750 sq ft), was paved in 1970 and, as you can imagine, it doesn’t look great anymore, at least visually. Now I want to remove the old paving and lay new stones. The existing base under the stones is sand. Because it is a driveway, there are also noticeable wheel tracks. In your opinion, what preparation work should I do before laying the new stones? Ideally, I would like to remove the old sandy layer, refill it properly, level it, and then lay the paving.
Is this approach sufficient, or do I need to excavate deeper?
That leads to my second question: should I use sand again or would fine gravel (such as grit or crushed stone) be a better choice?
Thank you very much for your support.
