Hi,

we removed the carpet in the children's room and found a lot of carpet adhesive residue underneath. What is the best way to remove it?

An electric scraper does a good job. Doing it by hand with a putty knife is tedious and takes way too long. A sander should be able to handle it as well. I definitely don’t want any chemical products inside the house.

This carpet adhesive can be quite stubborn. My husband uses a stripper, and that works pretty well to remove it. In the past, we used nitro-based solutions for removal, but I am allergic to those. I cannot tolerate them.

I am also facing this task. Although I’m not looking forward to it, what needs to be done must be done. Unfortunately, this is not a water-soluble adhesive, and only a machine can help here. So, I rented the ALPHA floor sander. This machine makes a good impression, and the first attempt was promising. The dealer said it hasn’t been on the market for long and has improved significantly.

The weight is manageable, as this machine weighs only 42 kg (93 lbs). That makes transport much easier. I also notice this during work—the machine almost runs by itself.

Hi,

Over the weekend, we also removed the old carpet. There were quite large areas of that foam material on the floor. I tried to remove it by hand, but it didn’t work.

My husband rented a floor sanding machine, and that worked perfectly. You really need that kind of equipment, as it makes the job much easier.

Thank you very much for your information. We have this task coming up again as well. Last time we did it with an electric scraper, but that was tiring. Now we plan to rent a floor sander like that. I’m curious to see how it works.
