Hello forum,

I have an extension balcony that was installed in front of two floor-to-ceiling windows. To properly waterproof the balcony, I need to have these two floor-to-ceiling windows removed and replaced with a door and a new window that have a frame profile about 20 cm (8 inches) deep at the bottom. Only then can the roofing company carry out the waterproofing according to the relevant standards.

Since these windows are only 10 years old and in excellent condition, I would prefer not to have them disposed of. I am planning another extension on the opposite side of the house and would like to reuse the "old" windows there. Is this possible? That is, carefully and properly removing them and reinstalling them in a different location?

Thank you for your answers.

They are probably fixed on each side with three screws. Some plaster in the reveal will likely always be damaged. If you want to avoid scratching the windows, you will need the same protective films during removal as during installation.

If your new opening is going to be slightly wider, this can be compensated with special extension profiles. The effort involved in the removal, when done carefully, is not significantly greater than without them—at most around one hundred more.
