ᐅ Reducing painting costs. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone!

The drywall installers will be finished soon, and after the tilers, we can focus on painting and flooring work. Accordingly, we’ve requested a quote. Unfortunately, it is well above our budget (over 16,000€). The quote includes covering and masking work, priming, filling and sanding, and paint fleece.

We now want to skip the paint fleece, as a perfectly smooth surface is not that important to us and the cost is quite high. But even without this item, we are still looking at over 10,000€. The filling and sanding work is also quite expensive. We could probably save those costs if we apply textured wallpaper (Raufasertapete) on the Q2 walls, right, or am I mistaken?

What other options are there? We have Q2 plaster. We know it’s not recommended to paint directly on this surface. However, our expectations for the finish are not very high. We are not fans of wallpaper, so eventually we just want to be able to paint on our own.

What exactly speaks against simply painting our Q2 walls? (Of course, we would sand and fill them beforehand.)

Thanks for your answers!

The intended use of such a spray device is indeed limited. For one or two rooms, which in the worst case might already be furnished... never.

Here, large parts of a new building are to be painted with one and the same color, both ceiling and walls. At this stage, either there is no flooring installed yet, or it is fully covered with fleece sheets or similar. The only things that need to be masked off are the windows; otherwise, there is nothing else inside the rooms yet.

Excuse me? What doesn’t a professional tape off?

A professional doesn’t tape off, which means the builder ends up cleaning for hours afterwards. (Is that what you meant?) 😀

You always get splatters and, when using a roller, very fine paint spray. So no matter what you’re “painting” with, taping off is half the battle.

And when spraying, the effort needed for taping off is even greater!

Advertising always makes it seem like you can paint or spray almost in a suit or dress…
Yeah, right. For most people, just opening the paint can is enough to mess up the floor. 😉
What you tape off as a layperson (e.g., baseboards on our Jura basement stairs) a professional does not tape off. That’s how simple it was meant. Not even the wooden windows were taped off to my dismay. A few splatters on the glass, sure, but those had to be cleaned as part of the final cleaning. The original poster wanted to help with taping, but there’s nothing to help with!

We have the WAGNER Airless Paint Spraying System Control 150 M.

Unfortunately, it’s not exactly a "reference" model, so it’s only suitable to a limited extent. Other devices, starting from something like the "Control Pro 350" and up, are in a different league. At that level, inhaling the spray mist should no longer be an issue...
