onkelchen2k12 Dec 2015 09:17Hello everyone,
We plan to start our construction project in 2016 in central Hesse near Gießen and are currently looking for a reliable building partner. There are some local general contractors, but unfortunately, I can hardly find any reviews or feedback about them (e.g., Franz and Lotz, Ernst W. BU, Bickel-Bau, Bautrend Nidda).
I have already had initial discussions with some of these companies, but I notice that they tend to be rather skeptical about modern technical options, such as ventilation systems, and have indirectly indicated that they prefer to stick to a standard model (energy-saving regulation house with gas heating and token solar panels in a 36.5cm (14.5 inches) Ytong masonry structure).
Can anyone recommend builders in this area? Would a local Town & Country franchise be worth considering? Are there any national or regional providers worth looking into?
Our plans: solid masonry house, possibly KfW55 standard, no basement.
Thank you for your feedback and have a great weekend!

I can recommend Massivhaus Mittelrhein GmbH, Mendig. We built with them.
However, I’m not sure if their service area extends that far. I know they cover up to Limburg.
A colleague is about to complete her house handover; her home features a brine-water heat pump, 42.5 cm (17 inches) Ytong blocks, and a central ventilation system.
So far, she is also very satisfied.

Every construction company has an interest in building the way they always do; otherwise, they couldn’t offer affordable house prices if they had five different construction methods in their portfolio.
Fingerhaus is based in Hesse and has an excellent reputation if a prefabricated house is an option for you. However, Fingerhaus primarily sells catalog houses, meaning that the exterior dimensions, staircase placement, and roof structure are not freely selectable but chosen from various catalog options. Interior walls, windows, knee walls, and fittings can be chosen freely.
Otherwise, you probably have building inspectors or experts in your area (e.g., Bauherren-Schutzbund) who can provide information on which companies rarely or frequently cause problems and difficulties.

I would definitely recommend visiting their factory. It is very interesting and informative. Bien-Zenker, Okal Haus, or Weberhaus—the list is long.
Have you ever visited a show home park and taken a look around?
At Fingerhaus, it is definitely possible to change all dimensions if necessary. I also had Massivhaus Mittelrhein among my top choices; they made a very good impression, and the quality at their selection center is satisfactory—we visited it beforehand. Although we ultimately chose a different provider, we also switched to a timber frame construction method.

I know, I never said otherwise. I only claimed that they prefer to sell their houses from the catalog, meaning they charge a higher premium for custom designs compared to, for example, Keitel-Haus, where every house is designed individually anyway.
