chamäleon28 Oct 2020 09:47Hello community,
The new development area where our plot is located is in the final stages of infrastructure completion. We would like to visually document our house construction and are considering using a drone for aerial shots. Since I am not familiar with this topic at all, I am hoping for recommendations from other homeowners.
The drone will be used exclusively for the house building project and only occasionally. The budget should be a maximum of about 150€ - 200€.
Thank you very much for your feedback.

If you’re only interested in static photos, I can’t really say.
If you also want videos (for example, flying around the house), I believe you should use a drone that has automatic flight programs, otherwise it will be difficult to get good results as an amateur.
For this exact purpose, I bought the DJI Mavic Mini (in the Fly-More Combo) for about €430 (around $460).
It produces excellent videos, especially in automatic mode. So far, I’m very satisfied with it.

I have the Mavic Air 2.
I can recommend it except for the fact that flying drones is basically not allowed in Germany. In principle, you are allowed to fly on your own property, but as soon as you fly over someone else’s property and the owner does not approve, you will have problems.
People walk past taking selfies in pedestrian zones and end up in photos or entire properties are visible on Street View/Google Maps, but as soon as a drone flies by, people start complaining and acting aggressively.
Also, almost every nice spot is in a nature reserve or near a river (shipping lane) – theoretically a no-fly zone as well.
What I want to say is that you probably won’t use the drone much, or only on vacation. And then it only makes sense abroad, where people don’t cause trouble right away and not everything is prohibited.
Renting is an option, but it costs 720€ for 12 months. The new price of the drone is around 1000€.
The price for 6 months is still 390€.
Or buy new and sell it after the construction period. That might even be more cost-effective.
You could also team up with another family or more people and share the cost. I think few people would object to getting footage like that.
