Hello,

after getting quite a few sunburns on our terrace this summer, we now want to take advantage of the affordable “winter prices” and have an awning installed on our house.

Power and control cables, as well as the indoor switch and appropriate mounting brackets in the wall, are already in place.

What we have in mind is an awning with the following specifications:

- Cassette awning
- Width between 500 and 600 cm (197 and 236 inches)
- Projection between 350 and 400 cm (138 and 157 inches)
- Electric operation
- Some degree of water resistance, so that the terrace doesn’t have to be cleared every time there is a short shower

Optional features that would be “nice to have”:

- Wind sensor
- UV sensor for automatic extension and retraction depending on the sun’s position
- Lighting

Has anyone here had experience with an awning like this?

We would appreciate tips on manufacturers and models, and possibly also on installation partners in the Stuttgart metropolitan area.

It would also be interesting to learn the prices you have paid...

Best regards,

Dirk

We will definitely install an awning, we already have the corresponding supports and STO blocks in the wall

The awning suppliers we spoke with considered that unnecessary. They would simply use standard anchors and spacers through the external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) to reach the intermediate ceiling.

How important do you consider the installation of an awning on ETICS using suitable mounting blocks? How was this handled in practice? Who provided the drawing for the positioning of the blocks and when? Did it then fit the awning installed later?

Thank you for the information about the awning and the price offer.

Since we have a timber frame house, the installation method you described probably wouldn’t work for us.

In our "previous" apartment, this type of mounting (spacers to bridge the ETICS and then glued anchors into the underlying masonry) worked very well.

The STO blocks are visible in our construction plan (shop drawings). Three separate detailed drawings were prepared, clearly showing the exact positioning.

Dirk

Unfortunately, I don’t have any information yet.
The daughter is ill, and the mother only remembers that the electrician had to come back because the awning was not part of the original plan.

@Bieber0815 :
Since we planned a canopy of a specific size from the very beginning, these detailed plans were automatically created by the house manufacturer to make installation as easy as possible for the canopy installer.

Based on their experience, our house manufacturer independently determined the position and size of the brackets and installed them.

@EveundGerd : Don’t worry, we’re not in a hurry yet...

Interesting... How many brackets did you install? Do you know the exact type? Did you use foam brackets or “real” heavy-duty brackets?

We installed three StoFix Quader HD Maxi units.

If I remember correctly, they are made of rigid foam (polyurethane?).
