Hello!
I am desperately looking for a manufacturer of steel stairs with an industrial look.
Preferably off-the-shelf and under 1500 € (euros). The steps should be made of wood.
Does anyone have a recommendation for me?

Theodorius12 Aug 2020 11:01Oh, well, then I guess I’ll have to build one myself. Unfortunately, I’m not skilled at welding.
I was thinking of using some flat steel stringers with brackets to screw the steps onto. Maybe a simple one-sided handrail made of flat steel or square tubing.

Osnabruecker12 Aug 2020 11:53I hope you have good insurance...
Will the staircase be used more than once a year?
If so, as a layperson, I would stay away from it... Welding courses don’t take just half a Saturday afternoon for nothing.
Not to mention the structural aspects of the staircase... including the anchoring of the staircase to the ceiling.

Apart from the safety of the certainly simple railing, do you like something like this?

Simon-18914 Aug 2020 09:34Hello Theodorius,
In principle, staircases with simple flat steel stringers are straightforward to design. However, even smaller metalworking shops will likely struggle to meet your budget.
Please keep in mind that the stringers tend to flex horizontally quite a bit when they are freely spanning this length. This is often underestimated! You should either firmly anchor one side to a wall or include a round bar bracing with a turnbuckle. Alternatively, have the stringers made from U-profiles.
Personally, I don’t find railings made from square tubing very attractive, even for our industrial railings, but that’s the look you want.
Do you have children living in the house or planning to have any soon? There is nothing worse than an industrial-style railing that kids can use as a climbing frame. They can easily fall over the top or slip under the knee rail!

knalltüte14 Aug 2020 10:22Our staircase from the first floor to the attic (wood/wood), with an open stringer (no enclosed space under the stairs), will cost approximately €3000 including installation and VAT.
Our exterior staircase (steel/steel) with a landing and stainless steel handrail will also cost about €3000, but this is excluding tax and excludes foundations.
Instead of the grating steps with a 30/10 mm (1.2/0.4 inch) grid, WPC was also offered to us. That would have been a significant additional cost. For €1500, probably no one would do it.
