Hello everyone,
In our future house, an air-to-water heat pump from Daikin (Altherma 3 R ECH2O 308/508 H/C (H) (Biv) 8kW) will be installed. We now want to replace the analog heating thermostats with digital ones. Since there are countless options available, I wanted to ask here if you could recommend any. They don’t need to be smart home compatible.

The energy consultant is often just a rubber-stamper. I wouldn’t rely on statements from the general contractor. Only on solid figures. That means a complete heating load calculation and the system design. Okay. Does this need to be available already during the preliminary planning, or is it prepared later when creating the documents for the building authority / planning permission, or when and by whom is it made?

You are making an investment of several hundred thousand euros and have to make decisions that cannot be changed later or can only be corrected at great expense.
For myself, I decided to become familiar enough with the trades of heating/insulation and electrical work to avoid the biggest mistakes. That wasn’t really my plan. I was rather intending to handle that alongside the construction process.

The plans are finished, the calculations have been completed, and the schedule is set.
Just as an example, for the heat load calculation, you need to know which insulation standard you have, what type of windows are installed, and the desired temperature in each room.

The plans are already finalized, the calculations done, and the schedule set.

So who does the heating load calculation, and when?

T_im_Norden30 Dec 2020 16:00This is done by the heating installer or alternatively by an engineering firm you hire, which can also calculate the underfloor heating system.
However, be aware that not every heating installer offers this service.
For the electrical work, depending on what you want, it is important to know in advance where everything will be placed. Ceiling spotlights or the openings for them are now typically cast into the concrete slab at the precast plant. Today, circuit breaker panels are large enough that you should consider their size during the planning phase to ensure the technical room or utility room has enough space.

And at what stage does the heating engineer perform the heat load calculation? I assume this needs to be contractually agreed that they will do it?
