Hello,
We have a single-family house with a Berlin wave tile roof. The roof is now about 30 years old and urgently needs to be replaced, as the structure is no longer sufficient.
Unfortunately, due to weight restrictions, traditional roof tiles cannot be installed. The maximum weight allowed is around 15kg/m² (3.1 lbs/ft²).
Of course, there are alternatives to roof tiles, but I am not familiar with them. Does anyone have experience with any kind of lightweight roofing? It is especially important to me that the roof is not too noisy inside the house during rain, which might be an issue with metal roofs.
I look forward to your suggestions.
Best regards
Edit: As an example, we found something from Prefa that fits the weight requirement. However, I would appreciate it if someone has experience with these or other manufacturers.

There are lightweight concrete roof tiles, such as the Braas Doppel-S Aerolox. Roof tiles are always heavy. Plastic roof shingles weigh about 5-6 kg per m² (11-13 lbs per sq ft).Unfortunately, the Braas Doppel-S Aerolox also weighs 3 kg (6.6 lbs) each. With around 10 pieces per m² (11 per sq ft), that totals 30 kg/m² (6.1 lbs per sq ft), but only 15 kg/m² (3.1 lbs per sq ft) is allowed.

motorradsilke17 Jan 2021 11:41We have a metal roof with panels that look like tiles. If there is enough insulation in the roof, you can’t hear the rain from inside. In our case, it has been installed for 20 years, and given the conditions, I would choose it again. The panels come in different lengths, and you can have the right length custom-made. However, you will need a few people to install them; while they aren’t heavy, they are awkward to handle. Three years ago, we installed them on a shed at my son’s place.

The roof is currently not insulated. So far, only the Berlin wave tiles have been installed. There is insulation material on top of the drywall ceiling.
Therefore, I’m not sure if a metal/aluminum roof might be too noisy.
We once had a roofer here who wanted 50,000 euros for a 160 sqm (1,722 sq ft) bungalow, which seemed a bit too expensive to us. So, we want to gather more information first.
You can find a lot online about metal roofs, including aluminum (Prefa). What worries us (or rather my parents) is the noise level, especially when it rains.
@hampshire
What do you mean by metal roof if you don’t mean corrugated sheet metal?
@motorradsilke
Do you remember the manufacturer?
@pagoni2020
I’ll take a look, thanks!
