Aussiedler23 Oct 2019 01:30Hello everyone,
I just registered.
A few months ago, I bought a small old finca (about 40 years old) in the tropics.
Since the walls are not straight and I had to redo the electrical installation flush with the wall, I want to replaster the walls at the same time and straighten them out.
When I place a straightedge vertically against the walls, I notice deviations of up to 1.5 cm (0.6 inches), so it’s a bit uneven.
In the past, nobody cared, but I want it done properly.
There are no real professionals here in this third-world rural area who can give qualified advice, but with straight profiles, the few available can at least achieve an even plaster finish.
Now to my main question.
The walls are painted (directly on the plaster), and the old paint seems to be quite firmly bonded to the wall.
What type of primer should I use to ensure the new plaster adheres?
And how thin can I apply the plaster? In other words, what is the minimum plaster thickness in millimeters?
Some additional info.
Annual temperatures here are consistently between 27 and 33 degrees, only at night sometimes down to 22 degrees.
Humidity is 60 to 80% throughout the year. Typical tropical conditions! Gypsum could therefore be risky.
Thanks and best regards,
Aussiedler

They probably like it here too, but my Spanish is terrible... and I don’t always have my glasses with me.
What are common DIY stores in Germany also exist here, but unfortunately without a more specialized building material supply and rarely with trained consultants.
Let’s try to meet one… and note down the name and location.
A good primer also seems very important to me.
One more question: for smaller dents that extend over one meter (3 feet), should I use a different type of plaster that can be applied more thinly?
