ᐅ Raised bed made of concrete blocks – to glue or not, and use a liner?

Hello everyone,
we are planning to build a raised garden bed from concrete blocks (3.9 x 1.3 meters (13 x 4.3 feet)) and have two questions:
* Should each block be glued with silicone, stone adhesive, or not glued at all (will the blocks crack in winter due to frost if they are not glued)?
* Is it necessary to install a lining inside a raised garden bed made of concrete blocks? I would prefer to avoid using a plastic liner if it’s not absolutely necessary, as I don’t want to introduce unnecessary plastic into my raised bed 🙄
Thanks for your suggestions and tips!
🙂

I understand that. However, the question of stability significantly depends on the size. Larger stones simply allow for more errors during construction.
Basically, it is also possible with smaller stones. See, for example, the video "Raised Bed with Facing Bricks" by Florians Gartenwelt on YouTube. However, I find that a bit risky for beginners.

Well, he can also try with the raised bed. If it doesn’t work out, the worst case is that he’s just burned some calories for nothing.

So, building the walls should not be an issue, especially since it is a thin-bed adhesive method. This was already quite manageable during the house construction.

The blocks measure 40x21x14 cm (16x8x5.5 inches).

If you know that... then why ask?
