Hello,

I have been researching for over two weeks now to find a dishwasher that fits my open kitchen (Metod). I have already seen the general discussion thread as well as the very long thread about dishwasher fronts. However, I am still a bit overwhelmed. My question is: Is there currently a quiet dishwasher available with a variable hinge and a cutlery drawer? My budget is a maximum of 550€ (about 590 USD). The most important thing is that the dishwasher is quiet since I have an open kitchen, and of course, that it cleans the dishes well 🙂

Regards

Affordable countertops for Metod are available at IKEA. Otherwise, Hornbach also stocks 63.5cm (25 inches) deep countertops from the Austrian manufacturer Kaindl and can make custom corner cuts. These countertops are 39mm (1.5 inches) thick.

My opinion:
If you need a straight countertop, IKEA is more affordable.
If you are building an L- or U-shaped kitchen and want corner cuts instead of visible seams, Hornbach is cheaper than IKEA. However, Hornbach only offers two designs in dark gray countertops.

Yes, I have a U-shaped kitchen. The problem is that no matter where I asked in Berlin, the delivery time is 6 weeks. The only option is to take the countertops from IKEA and cut them myself. I urgently need the kitchen now; it’s already set up, but I’m only missing the dishwasher and the countertop. Can I handle the corners myself?

Without special machines, you can’t achieve professional corner joints. If they are not made as stock items at your building supply store, you can inquire at a joinery workshop or simply butt the panels together with the FIXA joint strip.

What does the kitchen look like? Isn’t it possible to manage temporarily with a cheap worktop for 20 euros, like the LILLTRÄSK? Or even old desk tops or similar, depending on the size of your kitchen? You can sometimes get those for under 10 euros in the bargain corner.

Temporary means until a custom-made one is delivered to you. 😉

I have another question regarding the dishwasher. Is it possible to install a regular freestanding dishwasher that can be built under the counter? If not, why? I have already ordered the Neff, but I had this discussion with a colleague yesterday.

You simply slide a freestanding dishwasher without a METOD front into the designated gap, no problem (as long as it is not taller than 88cm (35 inches), which they generally are not). It just doesn’t look quite right, but so what. I have a freestanding one too.
