Hello,

Has anyone here ever bought laminate flooring, installed it themselves, or had it installed? I was planning to cover two rooms in my house with laminate myself and have done some research on laminate flooring. At stores like OBI, there seem to be good products priced around 24.90 CHF. But whether this material actually lives up to its promises is uncertain!

There appear to be cheap laminates that look good on the shelf but after about a year, gaps can open up and surfaces may start peeling, etc. Also, there are laminates that produce very little noise when walked on, while others sound hollow.

I’d rather pay 5 CHF more for a floor that will last 10 years and deliver what it promises. Can anyone recommend something? Would appreciate it, thanks.

If I were you, I would spend the extra CHF 5.00 and go to a specialized retailer! That’s what we did, and now we have laminate flooring that still looks like new after 7 years!! A friend has laminate flooring that already looks quite worn after only 4 years! Some joints have opened up, and there are even surface layers peeling off on top...

I have also had bad experiences with cheap products in this area. Usually, professional advice is definitely worth it, and you should only install the flooring yourself if you really know what you're doing. Flooring in particular benefits from not cutting corners. After all, it should last a long time, and anyone who has to replace damaged flooring every three years instead of every 10 to 15 years ends up paying three times as much.
